Join me as I welcome our next picture book guest, Anne J. Hill, author of The Laughing Pigs.

Hi, Anne! Tell us about yourself.

I write mostly YA and up fantasy novels, but do the occasional kiddy lit book as well. I’m an editor, avid reader, and owner of Twenty Hills Publishing. I love animals, hanging out with friends, and babysitting my nieces and nephews.

Do you have a favorite picture book?

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt

How did you know you wanted to be an author?

I’ve been writing since I was eight years old. It’s just always been a part of who I am.

Tell us about The Laughing Pigs.

Laughing Pigs is for ages 2+. It’s part of my Pigville series. Each of the pig characters are inspired by my nieces and nephews.

Who do you hope to reach with this story?

All children.

What is the main message of The Laughing Pigs?

For the most part, it’s meant to be silly and create laughter. It’s also meant to remind kids that their actions can affect others negatively, even if they didn’t mean to. And showcases forgiveness in a light-hearted story.

Tell us about some of the characters or pictures.

Each of the pigs were inspired by my nieces and nephews. I based their careers and attire on whatever they were into at the time.

What inspired you to write this picture book?

I first wrote this when I was 8 years old. It was one of the very first stories I ever wrote.

I found a printed copy of it a few years ago with drawings baby me did and thought my nieces and nephews would love it as an actual book. So I decided to rewrite it, keeping the same concept from when I was 8, added illustrations a friend did and published it.

What has been the most rewarding part of creating this story?

Seeing my nieces and nephews get excited about a book, and finding themselves in it. They always open it up and point out which one is them and name all the other pigs.
